So I will be finished with my last class at UW on July 23 and then I am treating myself to a campathon road trip down the oregon-cali coast with my two ladyloves but I will be finishing my last English class (and last english paper which I am currently distracting myself from) on June 11th which is the same day as my graduation ceremony. This will still feel pretty triumphant despite the one last neato sound class I am taking in July. Soooo to celebrate that I want to get some friends together to go to Butchart Gardens in Victoria
Just a heads up, I might not have the money for it since I am saving for the road trip but if people are down maybe.
Otherwiiiisssee I would really love to just go out to fall city (or this place) and go star gazing with the people I love

I want to be surrounded by natural beauty as a tribute to all of the intellectual beauty that I have been swimming through in the past 4 years. I think the most important thing I have learned in school and in my life during school is that I want to be a part of and contribute to the coalescence of those beauties for my life and others for always. Being an english major has taught me how to fill my cup which continuously flows over and will someday be floating in the middle of an ocean that hopefully fills other cups and I couldn't be more grateful!

There is a guy 20 feet from me, in the corner of the UW library, sitting at his computer bawling his eyes out shamelessly... it is really odd/inspiring/unnerving to be in a room full of strangers trying not to listen to this man go through whatever he is going through over there. cheers to the unique experiences of daily societal life.

UW had the highest funding for research in the country this year and has been in the top 17 research institutes in the world for over 30 years. I wrote a big shpeel about the conflict in my life between spirituality and the comfort of scientific detachment but I think the real point of it was that I hate my job and miss the lab which is just grump talking.
However this event at the Henry might be a nice compromise: Seeing the Big Bang: Lecture by Thomas Quinn Thursday, May 15, 7 PM Auditorium FREE
Josiah McElheny brings together the diverse fields of conceptual art, studio art and cosmology through his installation The Last Scattering Surface. In this presentation, Thomas Quinn (UW Research Assistant Professor of Astronomy and Adjunct Associate Professor of Physics) will discuss the way The Big Bang is visualized in the field of astronomy through images and animations selected in relation to McElheny’s work.

While trying to find marius' hilarious blog (naptimemagazine.blogspot.com) I stumbled upon http://www.naptime.blogspot.com/
This blog is so weird and addicting... Its appears to be written by a mental patient and if its legit it is really interesting.
Some favorite entries thus far: Nirvana is the coolest band ever. They have guitars and drums too. The singers name was Kurt. He was really brave cause he got shot. My friend Danny is a police man and once he got shot. I said, "You are cool cause you are just like the man from Nirvana." Danny is even cooler cause he has a wheelchair.
A lady is by my room a lot. She has a long candy cane stick. I think so cause it is red and white. She taps it on the ground always and once she went down the stairs onto her head. I think she is a real dare devil.
Also I'm starting to write a big paper, my senior capstone paper to be exact, and if you are familiar with some of my lj habits you can expect some entries in the process. I do this because my community of friends on livejournal as silly as this seems is a really good community and it calms me to feel like I'm reaching out to it/you. So yeah, thanks for listening :)

I'm pretty inexperienced with the internet and so I thought maybe you guys could tell me about your favorite internet hobbies since the possibilities are so great! Some of mine are: -Google image searching. What are your favorite google image search keywords? Some feel goods I return to are fat cats, antique jewels, fractals, psychedelic rainbows, fantasy forests, crystals, (cool thing) goddess, and a number of neat artists, designers and illustrators. -Salon.com for my daily news needs. Better suggestions? -fecalface.com for neat artistic how to's and inside artist's studios. -scholar.google.com when I want to delve deeper than wikipedia -thesaurus.com -kidscave.blogspot.com to see what cool shit my friends got at goodwill -sometimes (too much time) I spend time on myspace and the vice website but these tend to make me feel edgy and I'm boycotting the first for a week (wish me luck)
So as you can see the list is pretty basic. Info, pics, and news. But aside from the news I am relying mostly on myself to think of cool things to look up and would love to add some websites that provide the cool things for me! Also what cool things have you guys been looking up on wikipedia recently? I just looked at chakras, very cool.
thanks friends lets share knowledge irl soon!

| Sexist and stereotyped generalizations ensue: |
[10 Mar 2008|01:50pm] |
So for about 6 years now I have been trying to figure out why every dude ever says Natalie Portman is the hotty for them. She is cool, she is hot, but if every dude seems to be down there must be more going on. While Ian and I were eating pizza last night I posed the question and he responded with the most obvious and yet for some reason mind blowing response. She is in all the movies dudes get sad to. We then narrowed it down to say that she is in the movies nerds get sad to and that she is in fact not necessarily a universal babe but a universal nerd babe (most of my friends are nerds). I had some questioning as to whether the movies she is in could be considered movies to get sad to, so then we addressed "getting sad" and its multiple manifestations including just thinking really hard. This is a way nerd dudes get sad according to dude messiah Ian. Which I think is pretty neat, a little dissonant but deep at the same time. So after years of jealousy and confusion and snide remarks I tip my hat to you Natalie Portman, queen of the nerd babes.
Afterwards Ian and I had a good time discussing other stereotypes and the movies they get sad to and thus the babes they adore. Also some stereotypes don't get sad. They like jessica alba.
